"I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life
as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed."
Booker T. Washington
At Abilities Center of Southern New Jersey, we have a personal connection with our consumers and their families. Some of them have asked us to share their stories and tell others how they benefit from Abilities Center's services.
Donna came to the Abilities Center for vocational rehabilitation following a heartbreaking tragedy and Traumatic Brain Injury. She wants you to know more about her experience at Abilities Center:
"The Abilities Center gave me a place to come and start over after a deadly car accident that killed my 3 year old baby and left me disabled with a traumatic brain injury and speech difficulties. I slur my words because my tongue isn't working right. The Center allows for me to talk with others who have other issues. No one can fully understand the value of the Center until they've been through it themselves."
Mark, age 29, is blind and has multiple disabilities. He’s focused on his training:
"It has helped by trying different work areas. They helped me get a job in the community and even though it didn't work out I'm still learning how to have good work skills so I can try again."
Paul, who’s 51 years old, has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and recognizes how the Center’s services are helping him:
"The Abilities Center provided me with the atmosphere to engage in rehabilitation at my own work pace. The work at the Center helped take my mind off of the PTSD symptoms and this was treatment in itself by focusing on the work duties in the Food Services department."
We'll be posting more testimony and stories from the extraodinary people we serve - Abilities Center's consumers.
